While garage doors all do the same job, they work in different ways. To get the perfect door, you should look for a model that meets your needs.

In many cases, sectional doors are a good option. They often work better than other doors if you have out-of-the-ordinary needs. When is this type of door a good choice?

1. You Have a Short Driveway

Not all homeowners have the luxury of a long driveway. If your driveway is short, then getting vehicles in your garage isn't always easy. The way your garage door opens affects where you position your car before you drive into your garage.

For example, if your door has a tilt-up opening mechanism, then you have to leave some clearance space in front of the door when you open it. The door will stick out of its profile as it rises; you need your car to be out of the way.

This can be a problem if you have a short driveway. You might have to partly park on the street if you can't fit your car on the driveway and leave enough space for the door to open.

Sectional garage doors work well on short driveways. These doors slide up when they open and stay inside their frames. So, you can park right outside the door; you don't need any clearance space.

2. You Have a Small Garage

Some garage doors don't work well in small garages. Their internal mechanisms might take up too much space at the sides of your garage.

You might find it hard to get your car in and out of your garage safely if you don't have enough clearance room on either side. You will lose useful storage space.

Sectional doors are a good option for small garages. These doors roll up into a ceiling-mounted storage bay. You won't lose any floor or wall space. You'll maximize space in even the smallest of garages.

3. You Need an Unusually Shaped Door

Not all garages have regular door shapes. If yours has an unusual shape, then you might find it hard to find an off-the-shelf door that fits. For example, most standard doors won't fit into an arched or domed design.

Sectional doors are made up of individual pieces. So, it's a lot easier to produce a regular sectional door that will work on a non-standard size or shape of garage. You get the door you need quickly without high custom manufacturing costs.
